Rising SE Asian startups this week: a powerful data science trio comes together

Which are the startups that are on the path to becoming the next big thing? In this regular post, we give you an overview of the companies that have raised money in the past week, as well as those we think investors should look at.

1. KinerjaPay (Indonesia)

A local construction firm has invested funds into KinerjaPay, an Indonesian ecommerce platform with its own mobile wallet service. The company’s growth plans for 2019 include strategic investments and acquisitions in Southeast Asia. More info.

2. BasisAI (Singapore)

Three experienced data scientists have returned from the Bay Area to launch BasisAI, a company that creates artificial intelligence products. It has announced seed funding from high-profile investors. More info.

Investors: Sequoia Capital and Temasek Holdings

3. WeFit (Vietnam)

WeFit, an app that lets users subscribe to beauty and fitness services in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, has raised a pre-series A round. The mobile platform handles more than 150,000 bookings per month. More info.

4. Vidfish (Singapore)

Available in every country outside of China, Vidfish aims to be the Netflix of Chinese shows. It was launched in April 2018 and now has more than 64,000 monthly active users and nearly 3,000 paying subscribers. More info.

5. Kredivo (Indonesia)

Aiming to solve the prevalent ecommerce problem of cart abandonment, Kredivo is Kredivo is a digital credit card that offers instant credit approval. It’s also testing an app that can be used to pay for offline transactions. The startup is looking to expand across Southeast Asia. More info.

6. Neurosensum (Indonesia)

Neurosensum is a neuroscience and AI company based in Jakarta (Indonesia), Singapore, and London. The startup helps marketers conduct enhanced consumer research with the use of tools like electroencephalogram (EEG), virtual reality (VR), eye tracking, reaction time-based applications, and facial coding. 7. Panya (Thailand)

Trivia game app Panya raised a seed round last week from several investors. The app claims to have two million users and a 40 percent user retention rate. It also raised funds from Antler. More info.
