Hi readers,
There’s been a bit of a debate going on in certain parts of Singaporean society about the merits of moving out and living on your own. In Singapore, it’s pretty common to live with your parents until you get married (and sometimes even after you’ve tied the knot), thanks to high rental costs and the drawn-out processes involved in purchasing a home of your own in the city-state.
However, a good number of people are looking for greater independence – which is where co-living spaces come into the picture. And Hmlet’s newest offering could take that up a notch.
Today we look at,
- How Hmlet intends to make its comeback
- An AI startup that just emerged from stealth mode
- Other newsy highlights such as Zomato’s first earnings report after its public listing and Synqa’s latest acquisition
PREMIUM SUMMARY
Home is where the heart is

Co-living space startup Hmlet has been having a pretty tough time. Both its founders have stepped down, and the Singapore-based firm had to implement several layoffs amid financial woes and its recent exit from the Australian market. However, it’s making a comeback with its latest offering, Hmlet Nest.
- A place to call your own: Hmlet Nest is aimed at local and expatriate couples and families, allowing members to rent units or apartments on their own or as a couple. It aims to address the rising demand for flexible leases in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the growing need for an ideal work-from-home space and greater independence.
- Community is key: Hmlet Nest will be offered alongside the firm’s existing co-living business, beefing up the startups product suite with more private options without sacrificing the sense of community offered by co-living spaces.
- Pricing matters: Hmlet Nest’s prices are comparable with its other spaces, and its units will be located in central Singapore, which will make a huge difference in getting people on board the new service.
