Halodoc, the Indonesia-based healthtech firm, raked in US$100 million in series D funding in a round led by returning investor Astra Digital International, according to a statement.

This boosts Astra’s total investments in the company to US$135 million. In 2021, the local conglomerate also led the US$80 million series C round of Halodoc.

With the new capital, Halodoc has raised at least US$258 million, according to Tech in Asia data.

Funding details

  • Funding amount: US$100,000,000
  • Lead investor: Astra Digital International
  • Stage: Series D

Astra has backed several prominent tech players like GoTo and Sayurbox. Djony Bunarto Tjondro, Astra’s president director, said the company looks to help speed up the transformation of healthcare services in Indonesia with its bet on Halodoc.

Launched in 2016, Halodoc’s platform offers its users a network of over 20,000 medical practitioners, 3,300 hospitals, and 4,900 pharmacies. It said to have accumulated more than 20 million monthly active users as of 2022.

Late last year, Tech in Asia reported that at least 11 drugs, including erectile dysfunction and antipsychotic drugs, were available on the platform despite the ban from Indonesia’s food and drug monitoring agency (BPOM) to sell them online.

Although the company had claimed that it didn’t directly sell the medicines, BPOM said electronic pharmaceutical system operators like Halodoc are responsible for the sale of prohibited drugs on their platforms.
