Launched in September, Astro is founded by Vincent Tjendra, a former associate vice president of Tokopedia. The quick commerce firm offers over 1,000 products such as groceries, fruits, and medicine delivered in just 15 minutes.
The company plans to use the fresh funds to strengthen its technology team and expand its service coverage. While it currently covers 12 districts in Jakarta, Astro aims to make its service available to the entire city and some parts of Greater Jakarta in December.
The announcement comes amid an increasing hype for quick commerce. India-based startup Zepto – which promises to deliver groceries in 10 minutes – just raised US$60 million from Glade Brook Capital, Nexus, and Y Combinator, among others. The deal values Zepto at US$225 million.
