While Tokopedia and Gojek might have been founded independently from one another, they have always shared a common goal: to create opportunities for people from all walks of life.
For Gojek, increasing financial inclusion has been a key part of its work since day one. It launched its e-money service GoPay in 2016 and acquired three firms in 2017 – offline payments processing firm Kartuku, online payment gateway Midtrans, and community-based commerce network Mapan – as part of its efforts to provide users with digital financial services. Back then, the goal was to provide greater financial access for consumers as well as merchants of all sizes.
Tokopedia, for its part, launched Mitra Tokopedia in 2018, which aims to empower local kiosks – commonly known as warungs in Indonesia – with digital financial solutions such as bookkeeping functions.
While these efforts provided each company with stronger capabilities to help Indonesians gain greater access to crucial services and improve their financial literacy, Gojek and Tokopedia’s union in 2021 signals a bigger and broader push for financial inclusion in the country.
Let’s take a closer look at how GoTo Financial, the fintech arm of GoTo Group, is providing wide-reaching digital financial solutions for all Indonesians.

As the financial services arm of GoTo Group, GoTo Financial seeks to build the digital economy of the future. Its services currently include GoPay, GoBiz, GoBiz Plus, GoStore, Midtrans, Moka, and Selly.
