Foodpanda to open new tech hub in Taiwan, begins hiring for key roles

Food and grocery delivery major Foodpanda has announced the opening of a new tech hub in Taiwan in an effort to strengthen and diversify its tech talent pool as it expands across the region. It’s slated to begin operations within the second half of the year.

The newest tech hub is a part of Foodpanda’s NT$610 million (US$21.8 million) investment plans for its food delivery business, which was first announced earlier this year. Foodpanda currently operates across 400 cities in 12 countries.

It will house the company’s new engineering and product teams, and recruitment has begun for key department roles, including digital innovation supervisors and front- and back-end engineers. The facility will focus on research and development in new technologies and enhancements for Foodpanda’s mobile and web apps.

“We want to not only invest in the growing tech talent pool in Taiwan but also invest in tech capabilities to support Foodpanda’s growth across the region,” said the company’s chief technology officer Benjamin Mann. According to an INS Consulting report, Taiwan sees over 10,000 computer science graduates joining the workforce each year.

The launch follows Foodpanda’s parent company Delivery Hero reporting “strong growth” in 2020 globally. Its Asian operations posted the highest growth in orders across its global business, with orders tripling over the past year.
