Brief: Fitness app ClassPass comes to Asia

ClassPass to debut in Asia (Singapore/US). The New York-based fitness booking app will launch in Singapore in the lead-up to the city-state’s National Day on August 9. The Temasek-backed company was founded in 2013 and has a network of 10,000 studio, gym, and wellness partners in over 50 cities worldwide. ClassPass relies on a monthly flat-rate subscription fee model to charge users for access to fitness classes. (ClassPass)

EOS’s Block.one gets billionaire, Bitmain as investors in latest funding round (Hong Kong). Block.one, the company behind Ethereum competitor EOS, received the funds from investors such as high-profile venture capitalist Peter Thiel and cryptocurrency mining firm Bitmain. The funding amount was not disclosed. EOS clinched the largest ICO to date, raising US$4 billion. (Block.one)
Didi Chuxing looking to raise up to US$1.5 billion for its car-services unit (China). The ride-hailing giant is spinning off its car-services business ahead of its planned public listing, and has approached investors including SoftBank about the deal. Didi currently values the unit – which provides car rental, car maintenance, and gas station deals – at between US$2 billion and US$3 billion. (Reuters)
Edtech startup Unacademy nets US$21 million series C round (India). Sequoia Capital, Nexus Ventures, and SAIF Partners led the funding round. Unacademy plans to use the capital to grow its pool of teachers and expand its reach. (Entrackr)
