Following its estimated $250 million funding last month, Rocket Internet’s Lazada today announced the launch of iPhone and iPad apps for its customers in Southeast Asia.

Users simply have to select the country they are located in and then can immediately start browsing across the different categories and brands on Lazada. Users can also sort product results according to brand, price or popularity. It also lets users view product photos in full-screen mode and directly add a product to the cart.

Lazada first jumped into mobile commerce last June when it launched the Lazada app for Android.

According to Lazada Group CEO Maximilian Bittner, providing a mobile option for its customers is crucial for Lazada given the explosive development of low-cost smartphones and tablets in its target markets. He says:

Lazada’s mobile traffic has more than tripled in the last 12 months and already delivers a significant share of our revenues. […] We believe that m-commerce is the future of online shopping.

Within the first 72 hours of its launch, users who download the iOS app can receive a discount of RM30 ($9) on any minimum purchase of RM70 ($21) or higher.
