Global fashion e-tailer Shein launches new hub in Singapore

Shein, a China-based fashion online retailer, has established a new hub in Singapore in an effort to tap into the Southeast Asia market.

Currently, it already has websites for Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The company told Tech in Asia that it plans to create a standalone website for Malaysia too.

Founded in 2008 by Xu Yangtian, Shein produces fashion products in its home country and sells them overseas. The fashion giant is said to be rolling out 1,000 new fashion items every day.

The company says it does this to “spoil its customers” with selections of on-trend womenswear that they can mix and match.

Shein currently has more than 100 million customers globally, with a valuation around US$46 billion. According to local media outlet LatePost, the company’s sales in 2020 doubled to US$10 billion compared to the previous year.

In May, Shein’s app overtook Amazon as the most downloaded app on iOS and Android in the US. In all major Southeast Asian countries, meanwhile, it is in the category’s top 10 as of today.
