Dear readers,
Today, we are announcing a new initiative to highlight and address the unadjusted gender pay gap in Asia. On International Womenโs Day this year, we will redact parts of some of our articles to reflect the 15% gender pay gap that currently exists in the region, bringing awareness to the issue and urging the industry to take action.

Despite making tremendous progress in recent years, women in Asia continue to face a significant wage gap, with many earning less than their male counterparts in the same roles. We believe that creating awareness about this issue is a crucial step toward reducing the gender pay gap.
Our International Womenโs Day initiative is designed to promote discussion and encourage the industry to continue working toward positive change.
Our editor in chief, Terence Lee, believes that we have a unique opportunity as a media company to drive change and raise awareness about important issues, and thatโs why weโre doing something unusual โ redacting 15% of our content to reflect the pain of the gender pay gap and nudge the industry into action. We believe that addressing this issue is essential for creating a more equitable and just society, and we are proud to take this step to put it into the spotlight.
This is just one of many ways that we are working to promote diversity and inclusion in tech. By highlighting the issue of the gender pay gap, we hope to inspire others to take action and lead the charge toward a more inclusive and equitable future.
To quote our COO Maria Li: โIn a system where decades of imbalances have stacked up, equality initiatives are just a drop in a bucket โ well-intentioned but ultimately swallowed up by the broader forces already in motion. Try equity instead. Itโs an honest acknowledgment that the situation is inherently unequal, and that some groups need an extra boost to offset those historical or systemic imbalances. No blame as to how we got here, just solutions to correct the imbalance.โ
