Ecommerce giant eBay has named Vidmay Naini as general manager for global emerging markets. Based in Singapore, Naini will be responsible for leading the firm’s businesses in Southeast Asia, India, Eastern Europe, Israel, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

“The digital economy is exponentially growing in these markets, with small and medium-sized businesses propelling its growth. Global ecommerce platforms such as eBay can revolutionize export opportunities and expand the reach these businesses can achieve,” he said in a press statement.

Having been with the company since 2005, Naini’s most recent role was eBay’s country manager for Southeast Asia and India.

He also supported eBay’s strategic partnership and investment in Flipkart in 2017, during which time he was the Indian ecommerce firm’s business head of cross-border trade. EBay has since sold its shares in the firm.

Nasdaq-listed eBay has served over 134 million buyers from 190 countries since being founded in 1995 by Pierre Omidyar. In February, the firm said it plans to lay off 500 employees, or 4% of its headcount.
