Dyson, the British company most well-known for its vacuum cleaners, announced that it will be moving its headquarters to Singapore.
Dyson chief executive Jim Rowan says the move has nothing to do with Brexit, but is more about “future-proofing” the business. The company’s founder, James Dyson, is a proponent of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.
“An increasing proportion of the Dyson executive team is going to be based in Singapore,” the press release notes.
Dyson’s Singapore Technology Center will double in size. “An increasing majority of Dyson’s customers and all of our manufacturing operations are now in Asia; this shift has been occurring for some time and will quicken as Dyson brings its electric vehicle to market,” the company adds.
The move follows the company’s decision to build an electric car plant in Singapore. Rowan cites the city-state’s skilled workforce and extensive supply chain links as some of the reasons for choosing the location.
Dyson, which has been building electric car components such as electric batteries and digital motors, already has a manufacturing plant in Singapore for its existing business, as well as an R&D lab for artificial intelligence.
