Discussion: what game that nobody has made yet do you dream of playing?

There are lots of wonderful games out there to play. But in our hearts, I think many of us dream of playing games that don’t exist, games that would be just perfect…if only someone would actually make them. What’s your dream game?

Mary-Anne: An expanded My Disney Kitchen sim. I loved this kitchen sim as a child: it gave you free reign over a kitchen stocked with all sorts of ingredients that you could cook and serve to your neighbours, Mickey and Minnie. Each time you finished an ingredient, Mickey would pop by with an ingredient, and if you placed a dish on the table, either of the mice would appear to praise it! You could also call Mickey and Minnie over to sample cakes and breakfast plates you made from the oven and the griddle.

My Disney Kitchen was so comprehensive, but I remember longing to escape the confines of the kitchen, to wander a Disneyfied neighbourhood and visit Mickey and Minnie and other assorted Disney characters. And of course, to also sample their food and check out their kitchens.

PLZ DISNEY. Disney Magical World was great, but it isn’t My Disney Kitchen. Make my dream come true.

Iain: What I want (and have wanted for years) is a decent open world vampire game. Before anyone says Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, stop and think. That game was a very long time ago and it was more a collection of game ending glitches and poorly balanced gameplay than it was an actual game. I don’t care if it’s first or third person, I don’t care if it’s RPG or action, I just want a world to explore a world as a vampire. I was holding out for the World of Darkness MMORPG, but that got cancelled recently so I’m back at square one.

What I don’t understand is why there aren’t a thousand games like this, why Kickstarter isn’t brimming with options and why indies haven’t seized on the world’s obvious love of the sexy undead?

Seriously, can you imagine how awesome a sandbox action game like Infamous would be if there was a blood sucker protagonist? Draining blood to gain health, killing specific victims or other vamps for new abilities and flying around the city as a bat; the vampire was practically made for this genre!, But what do we get? A crappy Castlevania game which left me annoyed and unsatisfied.

So come on guys, I’m waiting!

Charlie: To be honest, I really thought this game would exist by now. But here we are, in two-thousand-and-goddamned-fourteen and no one has made it yet!

Basically, it’s the perfect first-person shooter. Something with the open-world tactical options of Far Cry 3, the fully-destructible world of Red Faction: Guerilla, creatively destructive weapons and tools like Half-Life 2’s gravity gun and the Portal gun, and the sense of humor and finely-honed-for-fun controls of the Timesplitters series. I mean seriously, imagine creeping through the woods towards an enemy base with the tactical freedom to do anything you want: charge in the front, sneak in the back, blow a hole in the wall, or simply plant charges at critical structural points and bring the whole place down on top of their heads. No matter which you choose, you’re going to have some fun, and when you’re finished, you get rewarded with a hilarious cutscene.

Now granted, that would be a difficult game to make, technically speaking. In fact, “difficult” is probably a huge understatement. But if someone can actually make a game like this, I predict it will sell a billion copies. Your move, game developers.

Xairylle: Delaying Doomsday. Before you charge to Google to figure out what the hell that is, it’s not a sequel of anything. It’s a game I proposed to a client a few years ago. Delaying Doomsday lets you take on the role of a deity appointed by the gods to stop various destructive and apocalyptic forces falling from the sky from entering the the living realm.

It has the same gameplay as Fruit Ninja, but instead of slicing fruits, you destroy a wider range of things such as aliens, meteors, gargoyles, radioactive space debris, and plague monsters to name a few. You also must be careful not to hit entities such as souls going to heaven or angels going down from heaven. Every time you miss a target, the number of population decreases. It’s game over when the population drops to zero.

The game was supposed to feature character customization and different worlds to protect and defend. You can even unlock or purchase different weapons, items, and even assistants. Unfortunately, it never pushed through for reasons I wasn’t told. I’ve considered learning basic game development with frameworks and other things to bring this game to life, but I haven’t had the time to do so and I’m not sure if I can pull it off.
