Indonesia’s biggest social network for foodies whips up investment from Japan’s Cookpad

DapurMasak, Indonesia’s social networking site for cooks, today reveals that it has received an investment from Japan’s recipe site Cookpad for an undisclosed sum. With this investment, Cookpad founder Aki Sano will join DapurMasak as part of its board of directors.

CEO Soegianto Widjaja says that there are still no plans to integrate Cookpad’s recipes inside DapurMasak, perhaps due to different ingredients’ availability in each country. DapurMasak, which is currently only accessible via web browser, is looking to launch its mobile apps this year.

DapurMasak was the winner of the Indonesia ICT Awards (INAICTA), the biggest government project to recognize Indonesia’s best tech products, in 2012 and is run by co-founder Soegianto Widjaja. His other cooking-related startup Sedapur, which also won INAICTA the year before, closed down.

Cookpad is now recording over 20 million visits every month, and has been quite aggressive in expanding its global cooking network. Besides the investment on DapurMasak, Cookpad recently acquired Spain-based recipe site Mis Recetas as well as recipe app Allthecooks.
