Cloud kitchen startup Dahmakan banks $5m in series A round

Dahmakan, a Malaysia-based cloud kitchen startup, has raised upwards of US$5 million in a series A round prior to the launch of its distribution satellite kitchens in the country. This latest injection pushes the company’s total raised capital to roughly US$10 million.

Silicon Valley fund Partech Partners and China’s UpHonest Capital participated in the round, which happened earlier this year. Existing investors Y Combinator and Atami Capital also joined the fundraise, which also got private investment from the former CEO of food giant Nestle.

Dahmakan is looking to use proceeds from the funding to further its growth in new and existing markets, according to CEO Jonathan Weins. The startup also plans to expand its leadership team and launch new distribution channels, such as inking partnerships with food delivery marketplaces and extending the scope of its own delivery services.

Dahmakan, which also operates in Thailand, faces competition from rival services such as Foodpanda, UberEats, and Deliveroo.
