Indonesia’s Tiket.com snags top prize of USD25K at international Tech-I competition

Tiket.com, an Indonesian startup that lets users book airline tickets, concert tickets, hotel accomodation, and travel packages, has won the top prize of USD 25K at the Tech-I international competition organized by the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Initiative.

The winners were announced at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Dubai held in mid-December.

Since launching in November 2011, Tiket has gone on to grow at a 20 to 50 percent clip every month, according to TechinAsia. So far, it has partnered with 1,000 hotels, six airlines, 30 convert events, and 300 travel agents. 

Tiket has also achieved two quick concert sell-outs — dishing out 1,000 tickets for a Japanese rock band within 2 minutes, and 6,000 tickets for Korean pop group Big Bang in 15 minutes. At the moment, Tiket supports online payment methods like credit cards, KlikBCA, BCA KlikPay, and bank transfers. In the near future, it will add the cash-on-delivery option.

The company was started by Natali Ardianto, Wenas Agusetiawan, Dimas Surya Yaputra,  and Mikhael Gaery Undarsa, a team with a mix of entrepreneurial and technical talent. Dimas and Wenas have worked together on two other startups, namely WayangForce and Bouncity.

The GIST initiative builds entrepreneurial ecosystems in 43 countries in the Middle East, Central & South East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa by identifying, coaching and funding promising entrepreneurs through its competitions, startup accelerator, online social media platforms, and mentorship programs. GIST is implemented by CRDF Global and funded by the US Department of State.
