Byju’s appoints new advisors amid mounting financial scrutiny

Indian edtech giant Byju’s has appointed former State Bank of India chairman Rajnish Kumar and former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai to its newly created advisory council.

In a statement released on Thursday, Byju’s said it wants to bring in “fresh perspectives and finance acumen” with the new appointments. The council is tasked with advising and mentoring the company and its CEO, Byju Raveendran.

The move comes amid mounting scrutiny of the company’s financials and governance, most notably its spending of the US$1.2 billion it raised in 2021. Last month, Deloitte resigned as the edtech firm’s auditor due to long delays in the latter’s financial statements.

The Indian government has also ordered an inspection of Byju’s financials, Bloomberg reported.
