Brief: Uber broke the law in South Korea. It was fined $8,863.

• Uber was found guilty of using private vehicles for commercial transportation in violation of South Korean law, a Seoul court ruled yesterday.
• A spokesperson said the ride-hailing giant had suspended its private car-hire service UberX in 2014, when charges were filed against it.
• Uber resolved the issue by paying a fine of 10 million won, or US$8,863. It continues to operate premium taxi service UberBlack and UberAssist, a service for people with disabilities and the elderly.
• As legal headaches go, this is a fairly mild one for Uber, which is fighting off lawsuits and controversies back home in the US.
