Korean gamers have been enjoying Blade & Soul, the 2012 MMORPG developed by NCsoft, for quite a while now, but the rest of the world has had to wait. But the world’s most populous country won’t have to wait much longer: starting on November 28, any Chinese gamer with a QQ account (which is basically everyone) will be able to play the Blade & Soul beta. You can download the client right now via the game’s official site (or just click this link to download directly).
You won’t be able to get into the game right now, of course, but you will be able to get in prior to November 28, as Tencent has said it will be opening up the character creation aspect of the game over the course of this upcoming weekend. Just be sure you get it done sometime between noon on Saturday and 10 PM on Sunday (China time), because otherwise you’ll have to wait until the 18th to craft your character.
For those that don’t know, Blade & Soul is a fantasy MMORPG that’s based on Asian mythology and folklore. The game is art-directed by Hyung-Tae Kim (you may recognize that name from the Magna Carta games, which he also worked on), and the fact that it looks great is likely to be one of the factors that could set it apart from competitors in China’s overcrowded MMORPG marketplace.
Can’t wait until Nov. 28 to get a peek at the Chinese version of Blade & Soul? Check out this video from the latest round of closed beta testing:
