Amazon seeks to halt antitrust probe over Future Group deal

US ecommerce titan Amazon has asked India’s Supreme Court to halt a review on accusations saying that the Jeff Bezos-helmed company hid information when it sought for a clearance on its deal with Future Group in 2019, Reuters reported.

The development comes after India’s Supreme Court announced in August its decision to halt Future Group’s US$3.4 billion acquisition deal with Amazon’s potential local rival Reliance Industries. This was a victory for Amazon and had put an end to the long-drawn battle.

The allegations came from the Competition Commission of India, saying in June that Amazon made false submissions when it was vying for an approval on its US$200 million injection into a unit for Future Group. Citing an internal document, Reuters said the antitrust body has decided not to give Amazon an extension.
