Tech in Asia Taipei Meetup: An evening with Lalamove, Asia’s Uber for logistics

For our next Tech in Asia Meetup in Taipei we’ll be inviting Blake Larson of Lalamove, one of Asia’s most exciting new companies, to address an audience of movers and shakers in Taiwan’s startup scene.

Last-mile ground logistics is an industry that most consumers seldom think about, but it spins the wheels of the economy for all types of physical goods. In Asia, two Hong Kong startups are taking the lead in disrupting this industry by applying the Uber model of transportation to ground delivery. Lalamove (also known as Easyvan) and Gogovan both offer mobile apps that connect freelance drivers to clients who need stuff moved. Whether it’s a coffee grinder you ordered from Taobao, or 100 sacks of coffee that Starbucks needs by noon, Lalamove and Gogovan are working to get their drivers on the job. Both companies are expanding rapidly, and one of them just scored US$10 million from China’s Renren – a testament to the market opportunity.

About the speaker:

Prior to joining Lalamove, Larson worked for Rocket Internet’s EasyTaxi, where he helped grow the business in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Before that, he was a consultant for the Clinton Foundation. He also spent over five years developing market strategy at Walgreens, one of the largest pharmacy chains in the United States.
