Serial entrepreneur Ashran Ghazi is taking charge at the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC).
MaGIC announced Ashran’s appointment as new CEO in a statement today. He replaces founding CEO Cheryl Yeoh, who officially left the government agency early this year. He assumes his post on May 1.
Ashran is a familiar face in Malaysia’s entrepreneurship scene, said MaGIC.
A business administration graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in the US, he started his career in the oil and gas sector with Petronas MITCO.
Since then, he has led many organizations in Malaysia, including New Entrepreneurs Foundation, myHarapan, the Malaysian Association of Bumiputera ICT Industry & Entrepreneurs, and the Global Innovation & Entrepreneurship Foundation. He also served as a board member to the Malaysian SME Development Academy as well as SME Corp.
In 2011, Ashran co-founded social networking site Joota, which has raised private investments worth US$2.1 million. The company has patent and distribution partners in the US.
Prior to Joota, he co-founded Asiastream Group, an internet TV and multimedia company, and served as its CEO.
