Apple, the maker of the iPhone, is set to open its first flagship store in India’s financial hub of Mumbai.
“Inspired by the iconic Kaali Peeli taxi art unique to Mumbai, the Apple BKC creative includes colourful interpretations of the decals combined with many Apple products and services that will be available for our customers to discover,” Apple said in a statement to Tech in Asia.
Various media outlets have reported that a second store in New Delhi will soon follow.
For FY2022, Apple India Private Limited posted a revenue of US$4 billion, a 45% year-on-year jump, according to financial data accessed by business intelligence platform Tofler.
In February, CEO Tim Cook said Apple was bullish on India, a “hugely exciting market” for the US firm.
Later in March, Apple contract manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group announced that it would invest around US$700 million to build a new plant in India, hinting at a possible shift of iPhone manufacturing out of China.
As its focus on India grows, the company also reshuffled its international sales management team to make India a separate region in its business operations.
India may produce 50% of the world’s iPhones by 2027, compared to under 5% currently, according to a South China Morning Post report.
