Anime company Production I.G and Internet Explorer join forces to bring Gargantia: Sky Courier to your web browser

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer taps into the gaming world, as it partners with Japanese anime company Production I.G to make Gargantia: Sky Courier, a visual novel flight simulator which is immediately playable in any web graphics library (WebGL) compatible browser.

Gargantia: Sky Courier is set in the world of the popular anime series Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (Suisei no Gargantia). The game follows the protagonist Ledo as he attempts to find a job on the Gargantia Fleet. With the help of his friend Amy he learns to pilot a surf kite to become the aerial handyman of the fleet. Gargantia: Sky Courier’s is handled in a manner like a visual novel with static character models and lots of text and no awful English voice-overs.

Anime’s series director Kazuya Murata (村田和也), and series screenwriter Taishirou Tanimura (谷村大四郎) will be making sure that gamers get a gaming experience as close to the anime as possible,

Gargantia: Sky Courier’s gameplay is solid, and the setting is very pretty. The action takes place in the skies about the Gargantia Fleet as you pilot your surf kite around an obstacle course. Gargantia: Sky Courier can be played on PC using the W,A,S,D keys to pilot and spacebar to accelerate. However the developers are pushing it for tablets with touch screen controls, so get your tablets ready.

Gargantia: Sky Courier is impressive for a browser game; the controls are sharp, and the scenery is gorgeous. Fans of the anime are sure to love it, as it includes fan favorites such as the war-machine Chamber among its cast. Unfortunately only the first mission is available to play, with the promise of more soon to follow.

You can play Gargantia: Sky Courier for free here on any WebGL supporting browser.
