Alibaba-owned Idle Fish has launched two new social features to incentivize users on its recommerce platform, reported Alizila – a news hub of Alibaba Group.

The new features, called SeaFood Market and Can Play, are designed to make it more fun and engaging for users to buy and sell secondhand goods.

Seafood Market is a platform where users can engage in hashtag-based conversations about pre-loved goods, while Can Play allows verified influencers to share tips and tricks with other users.

“The mission of Idle Fish is to mix the fun in finding and trading pre-owned goods with greener living,” Idle Fish general manager Ji Shan said at a Shanghai event.  “We want to make sustainability a new lifestyle for more people.”

Idle Fish, known as Xianyu in China, is one of the most popular online resale platforms in the country. The firm said it has over 500 million users and has helped to save 3 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions by promoting a more circular economy.

A report from Frost & Sullivan predicted that the Chinese secondhand trading market will reach about US$421.5 billion by 2025.
