AirAsia Super App has officially changed its name to AirAsia Move.

Tony Fernandes, co-founder of AirAsia and CEO of its holding company Capital A, will become the executive chair of Move.

“The name Move signifies us better as the digital arm of Capital A and reiterates our commitment to move people, ideas, and innovation forward within the travel space,” Fernandes said in a statement.

The company has also appointed Nadia Omer as the CEO of AirAsia Move, effective October 26. She will replace the acting CEO of AirAsia Super App, Mohamad Hafidz, who will continue to lead the business until Omer’s appointment.

Along with this rebranding, AirAsia also aims to deeper integrate with its digital banking unit, BigPay. Zubin Rada Krishnan, who currently serves as the acting CEO of BigPay, is set to hold the position for good.

During a press conference on Monday, Fernandes emphasized that the decision to rebrand is driven by AirAsia’s core focus on mobility.

He pointed out that while most online travel agency companies primarily concentrate on flights and hotels, a significant aspect of travel involves ground mobility, such as commuting to airports.

AirAsia covers these bases with AirAsia Move, offering ride-hailing and food ordering services, among others.

In the second quarter of 2023, AirAsia Super App achieved its highest recorded number of monthly active users at 15 million, while BigPay saw a 16% year-on-year growth in its carded users.

AirAsia operates across Southeast Asian markets, including Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines as well as its home market of Malaysia. Since Q2 2022, the company said its travel app has been EBITDA positive. BigPay is aiming to break even by 2024.
