After graduating from the same university, Asif Iqbal and Tauhid Islam took different paths. Tauhid moved from the power sector into academia, while Asif bootstrapped a climate tech startup.

During that time, Asif noticed that commercial buildings generated vast amounts of operational data that were rarely used to optimize energy assets.

They reunited to build Enerzyz, which helps commercial and industrial facilities optimize energy assets using data generated by existing building management systems.

😟 Problem

Facilities worldwide rely on century-old rule-based control systems to manage their energy assets. These systems lack the intelligence to adjust for weather or occupancy changes. This results in massive energy waste and overcooled commercial buildings.

A single piece of equipment can generate over 500 unmonitored data points every second. Commercial and industrial facilities typically spend US$10 per square foot annually on operations and maintenance. Inefficiencies account for half of those costs.

💡 Solution

The startup provides an AI software layer that integrates with existing building management systems. It analyzes operational data alongside external conditions to optimize energy assets automatically without requiring new hardware.

Enerzyz OS controls assets via an agentic workflow with several core capabilities. The unified API enables the following product features:

  • Reads cross-asset telemetry directly into the cloud.
  • Runs predictive AI for real-time health indexing.
  • Pushes automated actions to control chillers, solar systems, and generators.
  • Achieves 95% prediction accuracy in energy asset health metrics.
  • Requires zero capital expenditure from facility operators.

📊 Market size

Energy assets account for up to 80% of global facility maintenance costs. This creates a US$8 trillion total addressable market in inefficiencies across commercial and industrial management. The recent surge in data center cooling demand further accelerates this need.

🤝 Team

  • Asif Iqbal. Co-founder and CEO. He previously founded a climate tech startup and a semiconductor talent development platform before launching Enerzyz.
  • Tauhid Islam. Co-founder and CAIO. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering, serves on the Stanford faculty, and specializes in machine learning.
  • Arifeen Wahed. Chief program manager. He has more than 15 years of experience leading technology and innovation programs across Asia and Europe.
