When we last spoke to Japan’s Cacoo, a web-based diagram and mind-map creator, in March earlier this year, they told us that they would soon be launching a Cacoo Stencil Store. And now they finally have.
Apart from its default templates, Cacoo’s stencil store will provide users with more design options — including Android icons, flowcharts, and brain-storming templates. These templates and stencils are designed and uploaded by its users.
Massanori Hashimoto, the co-founder of Cacoo, explains that users are demanding all sorts of designing stencils and templates from his team. So, instead of trying to build every feature to satisfy demand, he told us that it makes sense to open a stencil store powered by users and for the users.
And the long wait looks worth it. Cacoo’s store is sleek and already has some neat looking stencils for users to download. As expected, most of the stencils are available for free. The add-on is very much focused on providing users with extra stencils and icons to play with when designing on Cacoo. Personally, I’m pretty happy with the default stencils provided. It’s always great to have free tools to help with your design.
The idea is innovative, especially coming from a web-based diagram creator. I did, however, wonder if other online mind-map web apps actually did something similar too. Well, not in Hashimoto’s view.
He told me that his team isn’t aware of any similar services that are doing the same. “We believe we are the first one to step up to this new level,” said Hashimoto.
Cacoo’s user-base has grown by 100 percent in the last six months, from 100,000 to 200,000 users worldwide, ever since we last featured it on our blog. It’s been an awesome ride for the team so far.
The service is available in English, Korean, Chinese, and Turkish. Cacoo is part of Nulab and is currently self funded.
