How To Collaboratively Create Diagrams Online

Creating a diagram or flowchart can really be a time-consuming task, especially when it involves decisions from different individuals. Launched in November 2009, Japan-based Cacoo helps teams to create online diagram collaboratively. The Cacoo team has provided us with this image (above) to show us how the collaborative tool look like.

Cacoo allows multiple users to collaboratively create wireframes and diagrams at the same time. I have tried creating several diagrams with my friends and find Cacoo extremely useful. The tools are intuitively designed and easy to grasp. Minimum time is spent on learning how to use it. You need not waste time searching for images or suitable arrows as well. Cacoo has all sorts of designs and graphics in its sidebar including social media icons, adorable figures, iPhones, iPad, special arrows, shapes and many more. The video below will give you a good product overview.

Cacoo is also available in Korean, Chinese (both traditional and simplified) and Turkish. More languages will be added soon. There are currently more than 100,000 Cacoo users around the globe with 39.8% of the users from Asia.

“Text only information is often not enough. We wanted to share information visually,” said Hashimoto when asked what inspired him and his team to create Cacoo.

So, who are the people behind Cacoo? The team at Nulab, Inc., which consists of Mr. Hashimoto (CEO), Mr. Agata (CTO) and Mr. Tabata (CMO) are the brains behind it.

Established in March 2004, Nulab is a software company based in Fukuoko, Japan. “We have also created a project management tool called Backlog,” said Hashimoto. Cacoo is currently self-funded by the founders.

Cacoo follows the freemium model and has only started its paid service just 5 months ago. “We just started team plans earlier this month and we believe Cacoo will grow even more. We do believe it’s a profitable service,” said Hashimoto.

“We are also planning to start Cacoo Store, where users can create their own stencils and templates and get money out of them,” he added.

Cacoo offers Internet users a platform to collaboratively create diagram, designs and flowcharts. As more teams work remotely at different geographical locations, collaborative web-based software like Cacoo promises greater work efficiency when designing flowcharts, wireframes and site-maps.
