We’ve been hearing rumors for a while, but now it’s finally official – TechCrunch has announced its China master plan. The U.S.-based tech blog is going to enter China in two ways: (1) It will hold a DISRUPT conference in Beijing and (2) it will establish Chinese and English tech blogs in the country. If this isn’t the best evidence that tech and entrepreneurship in China and Asia is booming, then I don’t know what other evidence you need.
It’s awesome news for Asia’s tech ecosystem that one of the big tech blogs is finally giving this continent some love. Kudos to TechCrunch for taking the lead. But it means competition for us too, at least in China, right? Sure – but we will embrace this new competition. In fact, we’ve been expecting it.
There’s an obvious gap in China and we’re happy to have been one of the first to jump straight in — covering Chinese tech news in English. Having TechCrunch in the game will make the whole China tech scene more fun and vibrant.
Our pockets aren’t as deep as TechCrunch’s, but we will be continuing our good work in Asia. I believe our team – spread across China, Singapore, Indonesia, India, and Japan – has already achieved what we set out to achieve: promoting tech and entrepreneurship in China and Asia. I imagine that is very much what TechCrunch hopes to achieve, too.
