The announcement comes as the region sees increased transactions through deferred payments, with buyers opting to pay installments interest-free through platforms rather than use credit cards for purchases.

Through the deepened partnership, which was initially inked in 2016, merchants who offer payments via the GrabPay wallet will now be able to offer PayLater payment methods at checkout through the e-wallet. Customers may choose between paying over four installments via PayLater Instalments or settle the bill the following month through PayLater Postpaid.

“Many of our merchants are already integrated with Adyen via their existing APIs. This means they can now easily add deferred payment methods as another flexible option for their customers at no extra cost,” said GrabPay managing director Chris Yeo.

Zalora, GrabPay noted, saw a 20% increase in new shoppers after adding deferred payment through Adyen on its online shop. The shopping site also saw a 15% increase in customers using GrabPay to complete their purchases.

Those who opted to use Grab’s PayLater method also bought more items compared to Grab Wallet users by as much as 12% and 32% in Singapore and Malaysia, respectively.
