Zomato hungry for more acquisitions, buys US-based NexTable to get into restaurant reservations

India’s Zomato today revealed that it has acquired US-based NexTable for an undisclosed sum.

NexTable, which does restaurant reservations, will be refashioned into Zomato Book, allowing the restaurant listings site to roll out online table bookings in selected countries. Pankaj Chaddah, co-founder and COO of Zomato, told TechCrunch that India, UAE, and Australia will be the first areas to get bookings using NexTable’s tech.

Zomato raised US$50 million in funding earlier this month, which came barely five months after a round worth US$60 million. In the past couple of years, the Yelp-like site has been on a tear of city expansions and acquisitions of rivals or complementary services. Zomato’s listings now cover numerous cities in 22 countries.

Last year it acquired Urbanspoon, Yelp’s biggest competitor in the US. Yelp also offers table bookings, which means that Zomato is set to clash with its arch-rival once again.
