Temasek-backed Openspace closes its third Southeast Asia fund at $200m
“Openspace Ventures, backed by Temasek Holdings, has closed its third Southeast Asia fund at US$200 million as the venture capital firm seeks to replicate its successes in startups across the region,” Bloomberg reported.
Details:
- Investors in the third fund include Germany’s DEG, Norway’s Norfund, the US’ 57 Stars, and Japan’s Mizuho Financial Group.
- The new capital pushes Openspace’s total committed capital under management to US$425 million, spread across three funds according to its co-founders Shane Chesson and Hian Goh.
Context:
- Since launching in 2014, when it was then known as NSI Ventures, Openspace has invested in companies such as Kumu, TaniHub, and Finnomena. It’s also among the early backers of Gojek and Biofourmis.
- The new fund comes after Openspace raised US$100 million last year from investors including Japanese giant SoftBank.
