YouTube has launched its own Person Finder video channel on March 18. In a bid to help victims reach out to their family members and friends, this channel aggregates video messages from the victims of the massive earthquake and tsunami.
The channel currently has more than 150 videos uploaded by TBS, a major TV station in Japan. These videos were viewed 120,534 times within 5 days since its launch. You can search the messages by the name, habitation area and evacuation spot. However, the search tool only recognizes Japanese letters only (Kanji, Katakana, or Hiragana). The information on this YouTube page will also be linked with the Google’s Person Finder tool.
“We hope this channel will help the victims and their families to establish each other’s safety,” said YouTube Japan.
“We also hope the video messages will reach many viewers and motivate them to contribute to the recovery and restoration of the disaster-stricken areas.”

Tokyo Denryoku mentioned that the entire city would need to have planned blackout until this summer. I hope every missing person can be found and the city recovers quickly to its previous glory. Kudos to YouTube for this post Japan Earthquake initiative.
