Youth4work: Helping Indian College Students Find Internships, Part-time Work
Youth4work.com is an online platform where companies and job-hungry college students meet. The idea is simple: There are short-term projects available in the Indian market and there are hungry college students looking to work part-time or intern while they juggle their school work. Youth4work brings them together.
It’s a perfect fit for both companies and students. Students can hone their work skills and build their CV while companies get a motivated employee at a lower cost. So far, the result looks really good.
After one month there are more than 1,000 students and 30 companies who have used Youth4work. In total, these 1,000 students have made over $260,000.
Rachit Jain, the founder of Youth4work, told Penn-Olson that the bigger picture for his start-up is to help students in small cities and tier two colleges to have a platform for them to prove their abilities.
The existing projects look pretty interesting. For instance, there’s a recommended project seeking a “social media marketing wizard/guru.” Although the project description sounds very cliche, it could be a good opportunity for students to practice their marketing skills on social platforms. Before expressing interest to the company, students can also ask questions and discuss to clear any doubts they may have.
Personally, I would like to see a neater user interface on Youth4work.com. And perhaps, the site could also provide additional options for users to log in via Facebook or LinkedIn. LinkedIn is after all the professional social network where most folks update their resume online. With LinkedIn integration, it would allow companies to vet the students credentials quite easily.
