Yotomo Marks 10-Year Anniversary of Bali Bombing with Special Check-In Badge

Today is the ten-year anniversary of the deadly Bali bombing. Indonesia and the rest of the world are marking it in many ways. Indonesian location-based app Yotomo is helping to mark the day by issuing a special check-in badge today called “The Island of Peace” (pictured right).

To unlock it, there are three steps: check-in anywhere, then use the hashtag #neverforget, and share that activity via Twitter or Facebook. Every time a user unlocks the badge, the sentence “Our prayers are always with all the victims of the Bali Bombing tragedy and their families (October 12, 2002). We’ll never forget!” will be shared as well.

Wahyudi, the co-founder of Yotomo explained a little more about this badge:

We had the vision to create a platform where people could have fun and get real benefits, but also express their support and sympathy on topics that matter. Today is one of those days. We have tackled issues like World Food Day (with the United Nations), World Kidney Day (with Diatrans Kidney Foundation), and others using our badges to make people aware of those issues.

Yotomo now has around 38,000 users, growing by more than 100 percent since we last mentioned them a couple of months ago when it started supporting QR and NFC check-ins. The startup has since started to integrate its API into other applications and is now collaborating with an oil and gas company in Indonesia to gather ideas for a better Indonesia. The campaign will be launched soon, but you can see a preview of it here.
