“One million of you “Like” us on Facebook. Thank you. This is humbling and awesome to say the least. We “Like” you too,” wrote Times of India.
Times of India, India’s most widely read English newspaper celebrates its 1 millionth ‘like’ on Facebook today. Started last April, Times of India claims to be the most well-liked Indian news media on Facebook . Interestingly, Times of India is also the World’s largest-selling English newspaper, according to ComScore.
Besides generating traffic for the site, Times of India’s Facebook page quickly became a hub for debates and conversations among readers. It also helps the folks at Times of India to judge readers’ mood and ensure voices are banded and heard among Facebook users in India, especially on news that is corruption-related:
“We also like to believe that active sharing of stories and commenting on events like the CWG scam, the 2G scam and the Adarsh scandal helped quickly alert people about the murky levels corruption had reached, and forced some corrective action”
A dedicated Facebook tab was also set up to thank its Fans. While a million likes isn’t much as compared to Lady Gaga’s Facebook page, it is heartening to see how Times of India has employed Facebook effectively for news sharing and engaging. Kudos and congrats, Times of India.
