Xiaomi racks up $63m in first 90 minutes of Singles Day sales (UPDATED)

xiaomi-note

UPDATE: As late Wednesday morning, Xiaomi says it has now sold more than US$110 million. The original story follows:

Alibaba’s not the only company having a great Singles Day so far. Smart tech company Xiaomi is also raking in bundles of cash. The company has announced via Weibo that in the first 88 minutes of its Singles Day sale on its official Tmall shop, Xiaomi has sold RMB 400 million (US$63 million) in hardware.

Although Xiaomi is advertising its phone sales heavily – the featured deal is RMB 699 (US$109) for the Redmi Note 2 – but its Tmall shop offers all of its products, including its smart TVs, set-top box, and various accessories like its headphones. The Tmall sales data thus includes all of these products, so there’s no way of knowing how many smartphones the company has sold until it releases more specifics.

Last year during Singles Day, the company sold over one million smartphones and pulled in a total of more than US$250 million. But that, of course, was over the full 24 hours. Just an hour and a half in, Xiaomi looks to be well over one-fifth of the way there.
