A lot of people are asking themselves if they need a smartwatch or if they’re just useless and overpriced phone accessories. Xiaomi’s response is that you really, really do want one – for your kids.

Xiaomi today unveiled its smartwatch for children – available in gender normative pink or blue. The Mi Bunny costs US$45.

Weighing in at 37 grams (1.3 ounces), the Mi Bunny has a bunch of cutesy LED animations to keep the young wearer amused.

It allows parents to track their child’s movements using a new app for Android or iOS.

Mom and dad – or anyone in the family who’s added into the app’s permissions – can then send voice messages from their phone to the kid. The child can reply by talking into the watch.

The Mi Bunny watch keeps things simple by featuring just two buttons – one for the walkie-talkie style voice messaging, and one for sending an SOS.
