Winners of the 8th Start-Up@Singapore are out!

Today at the DBS Auditorium, with Mr Teo Ser Luck (Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and the Vice Chairman of Young PAP) as our guest of honour, the winners of the 8th Start-Up@Singapore finals are out for 2006/2007!

The event started with a welcome address with Mr Yeo Keng Joon, the co-chairman of 8th Start-Up@Singapore. One of the interesting trivia this year is that the youngest participant is at the age of 14 and the oldest participant is at the age of 58, which means that age is not an issue for entrepreneurs. We have the highest record of entries and also have done many interesting activities including the bootcamp speed-dating event for those who made it through the semi-finals.

Then it was followed by an interesting speech about the trials and tribulations, Mr Teo captured the audience with the many stories of how different entrepreneurs started out and took risks against the backdrop of feeding a family and other committments in life. He spoke of an emerging entrepreneurial culture happening from our young.

Finally, we announced the results, and here they are:

General Category:
Winner: CurioX
1st Runner Up: J-Invent Inc
2nd Runner Up: TMN Bio-fuels

Youth Category:
Winner: Agrotech
Merit (with no order of preference): Fibertex, Healus, Envirob

For those who did not win anything, it is often important to note that there are no losers and only learners. In fact, a bigger encouragement is that usually, the non-winners of the competition ended up taking their companies to the best position. We hope that you will continue to support this business plan competition in years to come.

Good luck on your entrepreneurial ventures.

The 8th Start-Up@Singapore organizing committee thanks their sponsors, mentors, judges and advisors for making this event possible.
