What’s Big in Japan February 3-9: apparently cute characters
This past week was a big week for Nintendo as the 3DS took over the top three spots on our top ten most sold games in Japan list. Of these top three we have the long awaited Dragon Quest Monsters 2 and Puyo Puyo Tetris that both came out on February 6. The Vita also got a couple new games last week, Terraria and Super Heroine Chronicle, which took the number seven and eight spot respectively.
The big winner last week was of course Dragon Quest Monsters 2 which sold nearly 440,000 copies. Originally made for the Gameboy Color, this remake contains a lot of new features, including super G-sized monsters, that fans were excited about. Seeing how Dragon Quest Monsters 2 sales made up over two-thirds of the copies sold on this top ten list, I’d say DQM 2 had a fairly decent start.
With big names like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Toukiden: Age of Demons being released this week, it will be interesting to see if Dragon Quest Monsters 2 can maintain its reign.
