Philippines eSports bar Imperium now has its own League of Legends team
Remember Imperium, the first eSports bar and video game lounge in the Philippines? Remember how they wanted to help the Philippine eSports scene? Well, they’re doing something about that now.
Imperium has announced the formation of the Imperium Pro Team and the first part of its roster nearly a month after its soft opening. The eSports bar has picked up the Rampage 2013 champions, team Exile, for League of Legends (LoL). The roster is as follows:
Captain/Jungle: IPT Rebengga (Kurt Cristobal)
Top: IPT Hero (Jordan “Raux” Pamintuan)
Mid: IPT Light (Roybie “Melon” Segovia)
ADC: IPT Fear (Jyro “Zensho” Pascual)
Support: IPT Hatred (Zherluck “Lucifer” Tolentino)
Sub: IPT Shadow (Rogie “Buko” DelaCruz)
LoL is currently the most played MOBA game in the world. In fact it continues to be in the top spot in the top ten most popular PC games in China and South Korea for the past year. It is also a very popular game in the Philippines. In fact, an estimated 30 to 40 thousand people came to attend Rampage, the biggest LoL event in the Philippines.
In a previous chat I had with Raphael Gancayo, owner of Imperium, he told me about being determined to make a mark on the Philippine eSports scene and that he wanted to help push it forward. Creating a competitive environment was the first step; entering the competitive scene was the next. Although I was expecting Imperium to pick up a team, I did not expect it to be this soon. But don’t consider that a complaint. With my desire to push the eSports scene forward, I am actually very pleased with this development.
But this isn’t all, as Imperium is set to announce the inclusion of three more players to the Imperium Pro Team over the next few days. We’ll keep you posted for updates on this so make sure to check back here at Games In Asia or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
