Newbee to the grand finals, EG, DK, and VG to the lower bracket

China has made it to the grand finals of The International 2014 (TI4) as Newbee emerges victorious from the upper bracket of the main event. The Chinese team beat the top two teams from the group stages, Vici Gaming (VG) and Evil Geniuses (EG) with a 2-1 and 2-0 win respectively. Team DK, on the other hand, lost 2-0 to EG with a massive underperformance and some questionable place. But all is not lost for the losing teams, as they are not eliminated from the tournament and fall to the lower bracket instead.

Here’s what the brackets look like so far:

Newbee is now guaranteed at least a top two finish with a cash prize of at least $1.4 million while EG is guaranteed a spot in the top three with a cash prize of at least $1 million.

TI4 continues tomorrow with round one and two of the lower bracket matches. This time, however, the losing team goes home. Should Natus Vincere (Na’Vi) and Invictus Gaming (iG) lose, this International is guaranteed a new champion and will be the first International without Na’Vi in the grand finals. For those who have missed the group stage events, last year’s champion Team Alliance have already been knocked out of the tournament.

Aside from the lower bracket matches, fans can also look forward to this year’s All-Star match between the following players as voted by the fans:

The All-Star match has some returning players from last year’s All-Star match such as Clement “Puppey” Ivanov, Wong Hock “ChuaN” Chuan, Jonathan “Loda” Berg, Xu “BurNIng” Zhilei, and fan-favorite Danil “Dendi” Ishutin. For those who missed last year’s All-Star match, check out this replay:
