HeroesGo Review: an action-adventure MMORPG from the makers of Cabal Online

From the South Korean studio ESTSoft Inc., the creator of Cabal Online, comes HeroesGo, a 3D fantasy action MMORPG whose open beta phase was launched on August 30.
Story and characters

Unlike most MMORPGs where all you have to do is pick a character, HeroesGo provides you with four different characters each with their own class, skill set, back story, personality and name (although you can choose character names of your own, for every cut scene they’re still called by their default names). You can also customize your character’s hair, shirt, pants, gloves and shoes each with six different options to choose from. The customization is a bit limited, but perhaps more options may be added in future updates.
Though the website showcases five characters, there are currently four characters to choose from in-game. You can play as the Breaker Alfonso Von Migelin, the Blader Christian De Rafel, the Gunslinger Ruinel Pierce, or the Mage Marilyn De Sharen. Each of these classes currently branches out into two alternative higher-level classes. In the game, you take on the role of an adventurer who seeks to unravel the mysteries of your world as you and your companions fight monsters and clear dungeons.
Gameplay

While you will need your mouse for other interactions such as clicking on options or dragging items, HeroesGo makes no use of the mouse during battles. Instead, you make use of the keyboard to move, attack, jump, dash, and use items and skills. The controls can be customized by the player according to preference from the settings menu.
HeroesGo makes use of a non-targeting system much like Dragon Nest or Continent of the Ninth Seal (C9) meaning the character attacks the enemy in front of or closest to him depending on the attack or skill. I particularly enjoy non-targeting systems because it gives you more mobility and allows you to play the game more actively, depending on your skills as a player and not just the stats and equipment of your character. The controls for HeroesGo are easy to grasp for beginners since you don’t have to worry about too many hotkeys right from the start. The guide also helps in making you understand the basics of the game without having to read walls of text.

Unlike Cabal Online, HeroesGo is dungeon-based meaning your character doesn’t roam freely from place-to-place or map-to-map. While I might enjoy open world systems, dungeon-based systems allow me to play the game without the intervention of other people I’m playing with. For example, I don’t have to worry about players who kill steal or spam their skills to annoy me. Also, it doesn’t have to load a lot of monsters and players per map in real time, which makes it easier for my PC, too.
The game also allows for characters to make combo attacks. The website introduces three basic combos using attack, jump and dash keys although players are free to experiment with skill combinations on their own.
