We watch web videos almost everyday. They have changed our lives but we don’t know exactly how.
I got a clearer picture, thanks to TED’s head, Chris Anderson, who put together an inspiring presentation that explains the HOW.
Be it a dance video, a viral ad or a presentation video like TED’s, we learned something after watching it. That lesson learned, though most of the time casually, pushes the quality bar up. It has an impact on us. Whether consciously or subconsciously, we want to dance better, create an ad which is more viral, and present better in front of an audience.
Chris Anderson says the rise of web video is driving a worldwide phenomenon, which he calls Crowd Accelerated Innovation — a self-fueling cycle of learning that could be as significant as the invention of print.
In fact, web videos could even surpass the success of print. Web videos communicate languages that can’t be communicated through print materials. Our facial expressions, hand gestures and tone of voice are crucial part of the communication process, which are dearly missed when we read a book or text message. That explains why it’s easier to explain a situation to friend through a video call than instant messaging. Communication plays an important role in learning and the rise of web videos fit in nicely to accelerate the way the world learns without any geographical boundary.
