Indonesian Publisher is Bringing The Story of Siddhartha Into an Interactive Digital Comic

Remember the two episodes of digital comic game Wanara that we previously covered? The creator, Mechanimotion Entertainment in cooperation with Buddhist Education Center Surabaya has just published an interactive digital comic titled The Life of Buddha that tells the story of the spiritual journey of Siddharta Gautama, the founder of Buddhism.

Although the story centers around the life of Siddhartha Gautama, the comic is actually set in 800 C.E on the land of Java during the reign of Syailendra dynasty. Adhicipta R. Wirawan, CEO of Mechanimotion Entertainment, told us that the biggest challenge in creating the game was the amount of research spent to make sure that even with the setting change, the Buddha’s story was still portrayed as accurately as possible

Compared to the Adventure of Wanara, The Life of Buddha does not come with the in-between game transition, where you should slide left or right in order to save the character when navigating through the comic or follow a pattern to cast a spell. Mechanimotion Entertainment instead put a mini puzzle game that you can select on the main menu.There are a total of 45 pages, coming in three different languages (Bahasa, English, and Chinese).

Mountain of Texts

Reading through the comic might not actually be the most enjoyable experience because for every page, the story is narrated with mountains of text instead of the usual conversation style we find in comics. With only 45 pages telling the whole story of Siddharta Gautama, it is no wonder why they need to cramp as much information as possible in a single page.
