Indonesia-based Kupu banks $6m to expand AI-powered jobs platform locally

Indonesia-based Kupu, an AI-powered recruitment platform, has secured US$6 million in a round led by Ascend Global Investment Fund.
The investor, a private equity investment fund managed by Singapore’s Ascend Capital Advisors, joins Kupu’s list of backers including Sinar Mas Group.
The startup intends to use the new capital to grow its market share and improve its smart recruitment features.

Kupu was founded in 2021 by Haibo Zhou, who has held executive roles for different companies in China before. Kupu’s goal is to improve the recruitment process by making it more simple, accurate, and efficient.
The startup’s platform provides various features such as talent and job competency models, omnichannel sourcing, AI-facilitated video interviews, and AI matching models. The company also has a mobile app as well as offers personalized recruitment advisory services.
The startup has over 3 million users and more than 150,000 job providers from different industries and sizes on its platform. On the job seeker side, Kupu says it has helped over 600,000 individuals find appropriate employment opportunities as of August this year.
Some of the notable companies that use Kupu are Allianz, DBS Bank, Mitsubishi, Paragon, Smartfren, Kawan Lama Group, and Burger King.
