HotelQuickly, a last-minute hotel booking mobile app, raises $1.16 million

If discounted, instant hotel bookings have become your thing, then this is welcome news: HotelQuickly, a mobile app for users to reserve hotel rooms and check-in on the same day, has raised HK$9 million ($1.16 million) from angel investors.

Available for free on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry 10 devices, HotelQuickly opens up its reservation system between 12 noon and 4am each day. Reservations can be extended for up to five nights. It is similar to companies like HotelTonight and CheckInTonight.

HotelQuickly has expanded to 11 countries in two continents and partnered with 400 hotels. It has attained 150,000 downloads since late March across all devices, but is unable to disclose revenue or transaction figures. The startup makes money through commissions for every booking made via the app.

It currently has a team of 25 spread across the United States. About one-third of its executives are former Rocket Internet employees.

Angel investors from three continents joined this round. One of them is Boon Hwee Koh, former Chairman of SingTel and Singapore Airlines. Koh has been investing in a number of companies lately, including heathcare startups Connected Health and DocDoc.

This funding round is inclusive of the $500,000 investment announced in March this year.
