Video: This camera is a bakery cashier’s new best friend

It’s 7AM. The morning air is still crisp, and pleasantly tinged with the distinct aroma of baked flour. No one in the long line of office workers gives a flying duck about any of that, as they stare daggers at the thoroughly overwhelmed cashier, who is desperately trying to identify and hammer purchases into an unsympathetic register.

The same scene will probably repeat itself after dinner, for those buying breakfast in advance, or in the bakery’s last opening hour, when products are priced to clear.

Now watch how an image recognition system is swooping into Japan’s bakeries to change all of that.
