Eye care startup raises series A from billionaire Peter Lim’s Meriton Capital

Singapore-based health tech startup Plano said it has raised an undisclosed amount in a series A funding round from billionaire investor Peter Lim-backed Meriton Capital.

Founded in late 2017, the company’s app helps parents manage device usage for their children to reduce eye strain and risk of myopia.

According to a media statement, the app has more than 100,000 families registered in Singapore and abroad.

The company also has users in India, Malaysia, and Australia. It expects to be in more than 10 countries, including China and the US, within the next 12 months.

“This new investment will not only assist in strengthening Plano’s market position globally, but will also fast-track the execution of its research plan. For the first time ever, this includes big data analytics into myopia and smart device behavior,” said Plano board director and Duke-NUS Medical School ophthalmology professor Jonathan Crowston.
